CHARLA AND SKIP WILL SERVE AS EMCEES FOR MUSICFEST / BATTLE OF THE BANDS

As a small town girl from west Texas , Charla’s love of country music came naturally, but she also became an avid student of blues and rock-and-roll.  She attended South Plains College , where she studied music performance and got her first taste of the studio and songwriting.  After college, she toured throughout the region opening for acts such as Jason Aldean, Jack Ingram, Asleep at the Wheel, Joe Nichols and Emerson Drive, building a fan base while honing her craft both on and off stage.  Upon moving to Nashville , her talent and charisma caught the attention of CMT, where she is currently involved with a number of projects as an on-air personality.  Despite her demanding CMT schedule, she continues to perform with her band and write with some of Nashville ’s most successful songwriters.  Songwriting has become a passion and an indispensable outlet for Charla’s fiery personality.

Hailing from East Lansing, Michigan, Skip Wilson is a native of the Midwest . His passion for music is what brought him to Nashville, where he graduated from Vanderbilt University with degrees in music and communications. Skip is an avid student of both classical and contemporary music and has had the opportunity to sit in on sessions with Jimmy Buffet, Keith Urban, Karel Husa and Joan Tower. Skip first joined CMT in 2006 traveling and touring with CMT Cross Country and has since become a diehard fan of the writing and musicianship that can only be found in country music. He has had the opportunity to host a variety of events with CMT, including the CMA Music Festival Afterhours, Big State Festival, Stagecoach Festival and Austin City Limits.
Having been a member of marching band in both high school and college, Skip truly understands the commitment and dedication it takes to be a member of the band. The self-proclaimed “band-geek” looks forward to excellent music and shows from both the Seminoles and the Wildcats. And yes, Skip has experienced the horrors of band camp.
