NASHVILLE – Few have won the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl twice.
Auburn is among that select group with wins in 2003 and 2018.
And during their first triumph, the Tigers gave the college football world a glimpse of something special on the horizon.
In 2003, the Tigers faced a tough Big Ten opponent in Wisconsin. The Tigers would have to get past a physical Badgers squad.
Led by quarterback Jason Campbell and the dynamic duo of running backs Carnell “Cadillac” Williams and Ronnie Brown, the Tigers did just that in a 28-14 triumph over Wisconsin. The game was all tied up until Williams and Brown scored in the last four minutes to go ahead and seal the deal.
Williams and Brown finished with 68 yards and 62 yards respectively to go with a pair of touchdowns each. Campbell was named the game's MVP.
Like Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowls before and after, the game offered a look of what was down the road.
Campbell, Brown and Williams returned in 2004 to help the Auburn go undefeated, capture an SEC title and go down as one of the best offenses in league history.
