2009 – Clemson vs. Kentucky

2009 Bowl Game
December 27, 2009 - LP Field

Clemson 21, Kentucky 13
Attendance: 57,280

Clemson senior and future NFL 1st round pick C.J. Spiller finished his college career with a victory at LP Field. Spiller racked up 172 all-purpose yards, as well as a rushing touchdown, and was named the Bowl’s MVP. Kentucky jumped out to an early lead in this contest as quarterback Morgan Newton hit Chris Matthews for a 17-yard touchdown strike. However, Clemson’s defense would not allow another touchdown in this game and held Kentucky to thirteen points. Clemson grabbed the lead late in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Jamie Harper and led for the rest of the game.

This game was Gaylord Hotels last year as title sponsor after a long run. This game also represented the only repeat match-up in our history, with Clemson avenging a 2006 loss to Kentucky in Nashville.

MVP: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
